Here’s a refresher on who we are and what we do:

Who we are

BusinessOne USYD is a student-run society that bridges the gap between university theory and industry consulting. We do this by recruiting USYD's brightest minds to work on a semester-long project with leading Australian tech startups. Our previous clients include Eucalyptus, Crimson Education, and Lyka.

What you do

You’ll engage in a semester-long project in a team of 4 Consultants, 1 Senior Consultant, and 1 Team Leader to develop a strategy for a leading Australian tech startup; previous project briefs include market entry into the Indonesian ed-tech industry, growth strategy to access untapped markets, and product development and upscaling of AI products.

Our bi-annual USYD Cup competition allows for you to take part in a case-competition style event, presenting your final decks to a panel of industry professionals.

With alumni at a variety of firms such as McKinsey, Blackstone, Atlassian, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, and Canva, the BusinessOne experience provides a learning environment for key skills in whichever path you’re seeking in your career.

We also provide workshops throughout the semester to teach you key consulting skills, and have Project Check-Ins where industry professionals provide you feedback on your work.

Application FAQ’s

Q: What if I’m a first-year with no consulting experience?

This is perfectly fine! Majority of our current executive team joined the society as a first-year so we understand how daunting it can be. Fear not, we tailor our assessment process to prioritise soft-skills such as creativity, kindness, and collaboration. Each year we accept many bright first-year students who eventually grow into confident aspiring-consultants!

In saying so, we also will not overlook you if you are an older aged student. We accept students of all ages, including postgraduate students (we have one in our executive team!)

Q: What if I’m not a Business School student?

This is also perfectly fine! Some of our most outstanding consultants have been from STEM, Law, and Arts backgrounds. We want to reflect the diversity of the consulting industry through recruiting a range of students from different studies.

Q: What is the quality expected for the slide submission?

For the written application, we do not expect a perfectly polished pitch deck. We expect applications from many students who are not familiar with consulting at all. We believe that the technical and design skills of consulting can be gained and taught through our workshops throughout the semester.

What we do look for is critical thinking, creativity, research skills, and effort.

There are sample slide decks provided in the form, which should help you gain an idea of how your slides can look like, design-wise.

Leave enough time to complete the application, tell us about who YOU are, and put in effort to the slides.
